Many pensioners across the UK are worried that government cuts might affect the winter fuel allowance this winter. Many of these people are already struggling to pay for fuel as it is; the allowance is a welcome help with heating oil bills. So if this allowance to pensioner’s is cut, then there is a fear that they will not be able to keep themselves warm in the winter and they could die because of it. Last winter saw many having to choose between food and heating oil; so it is frightening to think of the effect the removal of this allowance could have – especially if we have another bad winter.
David Cameroon has not ruled out alterations to the winter fuel allowance. This leads many to believe that the proposed shake up of the welfare system by the Tories could include getting rid of the winter fuel allowance. However there are many experts who are warning that this could be a grave mistake as it would be devastating to many pensioners. Many would agree that there are changes that could be make but on the whole these changes should not be affecting the most vulnerable in our society. It really should be a person’s human right to be able to keep warm in a civilised country and allowing any citizen to die because of the cold should be unheard of.
Last winter was very hard for a lot of older people; as the cold sets in there is an increase in illness and accidents among this sector of the population. We can only hope that this winter they won’t find it even harder to cope. But things could get much worse for these pensioners if the government take away their winter fuel allowance.
Some people spend a lot of money heating their homes in the winter. Fuel such as electricity and gas show no signs of coming down in price. Many individuals are now changing over to cheaper home heating oil though. Cheapest heating oil are the people tasked with keeping home oil tanks full. Oil suppliers are prevelant throughout the UK, and will supply, for instance heating oil norwood.
